Hüseyin Kurucan, an 85-year-old retired teacher, produces patented smart coffee tables in a small iron workshop he established 39 years ago after his retirement.
Hüseyin Kurucan, an 85-year-old retired metalwork teacher from Denizli, retired in 1984 after 28 years of teaching. Kurucan, who set up a small iron workshop, combined his experience and knowledge eight years ago to design a table he called "Smart Table" and registered the brand as "My Coffee Table is Smart."
Kurucan, who was also chosen as the "Ahi" of the year two years ago, has not given up on production despite his advanced age. Kurucan comes to his workshop early in the morning and works in every part of the manufacturing process until evening. Kurucan sells his smart coffee tables domestically through online stores and also exports his products abroad.
Kurucan explained that the smart tables he produces from first-class MDF with wheels have a hydraulic system, and when opened with a single movement, the table, which is 60 centimeters when closed, reaches a width and length of 1 meter 20 centimeters. He said, "I retired from the Industrial Vocational High School in 1985. I was assigned by the state for 28 years of education. Since 1985, I have had a workplace in industry for 39 years and I am working. The state chose me as Denizli Ahi in 2021."
The necessary documents were provided by the governor. And I still can't get enough of working, I continue. I will continue to work until the end of my life. I currently contribute at least 30-40 thousand liras to the state through manufacturing. I also benefit. My life has been spent working in this way and I am very happy. In 1985, I started by making luggage racks for cars, picnic and tent frames. Today I have reached a certain point. I started producing this smart coffee table and got its patent. Currently, I sell 8-10 pieces daily from a national shopping site, sales outlets, and our own site. Those who buy are very satisfied. Those who express their satisfaction come to us and thank us," he said.
